Results: State Wavesailing 2009

September 12, 2009
The South Australian 2009 Wavesailing Tiles were held at Middleton on Sun Sept 6th. Here’s a brief wrap up.

Social division – 16 Sailors – some pretty tidy windsurfing went down – conditions were a little trying at first when the wind backed off to 15 knots and everyone was rigged for the 25 knots just before the comp started.

When it finally kranked back in we had about 45 mins of 15-25 knots cross off with a few 2 – 2-1/2 foot waves. Was awesome to see the Southern Right whales watching proceedings from out the back and great that everyone respected the exclusion zone regulations.

Social Placings:
1st Greg Fletcher:
with some smooth wave sailing
2nd Marty Sellars: finding some sweet sets and sliding the evo around
3rd Ty Andrews: tying some nice moves together to get the nod from the judges
Womens: Anthea Williams (who we owe a bottle of red wine)

Open Mens
This was great to watch – wind kicked but the sailors said the slightly cross on made wave riding a little more difficult with the risk of being backwinded on the sections.

1st Dean Ryles: with some slippery wave face moves and a range of back and forward loops
2nd Mark Smith: in his usual style one of the smoothest wave face riders – some nice reos – a pleasure to watch
3rd Chris Hales & Tim Haselgrove: the judges couldn’t split them so Chris & Tim shared the spoils – both with some sweet aerial moves and a few nice waves to cap it off.

Cheers to Geoff Mitton, Gareth Williams and James Thomson (who we couldn’t find for the final) who sailed till they nearly collapsed and just missed out on the prizes.

Thoughts go out to Scott McCluskey who pulled a sweet forward in wind that no one else could even move in and landed awkwardly and hurt his back – hope its on the improve quickly.

Thanks to Onboard Windsurfing Glenelg for the tent, Coopers Pale ales and flags, Tru Blu Hire for the generator, SAKSA for the loan of PA (and Johnny) and Dave Watson for a couple of bottles of wine for the prizes.

Finally Thankx to Johnny “chops” Sellars for a great job on the Mike and helping us keep things under control, Gemma for signing everyone up and keeping tabs on the cash and Kym for a great effort sorting out the social judging (be good to see you back out there).

Thanks to everyone else that came along, competed, helped out and shared a beer and a sausage afterwards – makes it all worthwhile when it comes off!!! - article copied (for posterity) from the Seabreeze Forum.
