Windsurfing MilestonesSeptember 5, 2011
The “Australian Windsurfing Assoc. Inc.” was incorporated in Victoria on 1/12/1995. The incorporation followed a name change to Australia’s then peak windsurfing body, AUSA (Australian Union of Sailboard Associations).
I’m not sure of the AUSA formation date, only that it would be after the formation of the NSW Boardsailing Assoc in 1988. AUSA was run out of NSW with Bill Joselin being on the committee for many years.
Bill Joselin (NSW), Bruce McPhail (Vic) and John Rohde (SA) were some of the people involved in the drafting the AWA constitution.
Up until the mid 80’s, Windsurfer One Design ruled.
Here are some SA Milestones – Do you have any additional State/National Milestones (Establishment dates) to add??
8th June 2011:
25th Anniversary of WindsurfingSA
formerly SA Board Sailing Assoc Inc.
7th September 2011:
15th Anniversary of Windsurfing.org website
Australia celebrates the
30th Annual Windsurfer Class Nationals
Events that would have been celebrated if the organisations still existed
30th Anniversary of the SA Windsurfer Class assoc.
SA’s first windsurfing assoc.
I remember being on the committee when it was formed – windsurfer one design hasn’t changed much in that time, but little changes in those early days seemed to be quite significant at the time.
25th Anniversary of the SA Funboard Assoc.
both groups were supposed to dissolve on the creation of the SA Boardsailing Association, but for various reasons, it never happened.
