April Demo/Beginner Days

April 3, 2011

In an exciting initiative; Parkdale Yacht Club with Windsurfing Victoria and SHQ Boardsports would like to bring you a fantastic opportunity to sample the sport of windsurfing in a family friendly environment.

A number of windsurfing demo/beginner days will run from 9:30am to 1:00pm, on three consecutive Sundays in April 2011 (3rd, 10th and 17th) from Parkdale Yacht Club. In the event of unsuitable weather, Windsurfing Victoria will run an off the water information and tutorial session with use of instructional windsurfing DVDs in the club house upstairs.

Please note, the demo/beginner days will be suitable for kids over 8 years of age to adults. It is recommended that the kids be accompanied by their parents on the water.

Lessons – SA

January 30, 2011

Windsurfing SA doesn’t run a school, but we do have the occasional event for beginners (We had a Women’s and Beginners Day on  21 Nov at Goolwa). Matt Stringer runs lessons, and you can get in touch with him through the Onboard shop:

http://www.onboard.com.au/sailboardingtipsandinfotips/

or
WINDSUP Windsurfing and SUP school – Call Matt Stringer on 0417858641, he will help you out.

Also, news about local events is usually posted on this forum:

http://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/South-Australia/

“I went though Matt Stringer’s school (WindSUP) a few years ago. The idea is to fast track the beginner phase without the hassle of buying beginner equipment (and this is the phase where people either take it up or decide it’s not for them). After a few lessons, you’ll be able to look at buying intermediate gear and sailing on a lake or in the ocean by yourself. So, give Matt Stringer (WindSUP) a ring on 0417 858641 and book your first lesson. He teaches at Tiranna Way in West Lakes. The only thing Matt would like you to bring for your first lesson is foot protection (some old runners will do). This is in the event you tread on something sharp in the water. Good luck” – sharkbiscuit on seabreeze forum 28/1/2011

RSX and Techno Training

October 9, 2010

Just a short note to let you all know the dates and venues for training in around that Sail Down Under events this season.

As part of Yachting Australia’s windsurfing development plan, Brendan Todd will conduct training for Bic Techno 293 and RSX pre Sail Brisbane and Sail Sydney.  After Sail Melbourne he will also have a training camp in Melbourne to build on what’s been learnt over the December racing period.  After Sail Melbourne will be a good time to assess skills and try some new things leading up to National’s both the OAMPS Australian Youth Championship and RSX and Techno Class Nationals later in the year in QLD  at RAYS.

We have been able to bring Sail Melbourne into the fold and have BIC Techno 293 competing alongside other youth and junior classes in the mornings at the World Cup.  Now that all the Sail Down Under events will have both Youth and Senior class represented we should be able to make a good spectacle and have a more racing opportunities for developing sailors.

One-page flyer.

Let Brendan know in advance if your planning to come to any of these so that he can be sure to tell the clubs the numbers expected.

Good Sailing,
Brendan Todd
